The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC)
is the UK’s leading national charity offering support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse, including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Visit napac.org.uk
Around one in five adults have experienced some form of abuse in childhood. There are over five million adult survivors of child sexual abuse in the UK.
NAPAC runs a national support line: 0808 801 0331 which is free from UK landlines or mobiles. Last year they took over 4,500 calls on their support line. NAPAC:
- trains professionals to better understand how to support the survivors they work with. This year they are training 300 people
- runs support groups for survivors to help people come to terms with the impact of their childhood trauma
- Advocates on behalf of survivors in the media and elsewhere
- is closely involved in helping the UK Police with Operation Yewtree and its consequences, and with the Papal Commission for the protection of minors.
I chose to support NAPAC as it does incredible work, and because the founder Peter Saunders is a fellow cyclist at my bike club Bigfoot CC. Indeed NAPAC is the chosen charity for the club.
I plan to do a daily blog for the ride on the Bigfoot CC website, and here is a link: http://bigfootcc.co.uk/2016/06/lejog-the-blog-first-post/
