Help me...... help Mercy Ships and my sister..... bring surgery and medical training to those who need it.
5 billion people world-wide lack access to safe, affordable surgical and anaesthesia care. Every year 33 million people face catastrophic financial ruin because they need surgery, for example, their child falls over and breaks an arm, or a woman needs a caesarean. 142 million more operations are needed each year to meet people's needs in poorer countries. The international charity Mercy Ships aims to meet some of that need.
The Africa Mercy is the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship and provides free surgeries and medical training to some of the world's poorest people. It has 5 operating theatres, 4 wards, and a CT scanner. Mercy Ships operates on adults and children who wouldn't be able to have surgery otherwise. Mercy Ships also provides training for surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, biomedical technicians, sterile processing technicians and others. They truly are "bringing hope and healing", not only to patients but also inspiring 100s and 1000s of doctors and nurses. This year in Madagascar, which is the fourth worst country in the world for malnutrition, Mercy Ships has treated over 1000 surgical patients and trained over 1000 health and other professionals.
My sister, Michelle, gave up her job as a Consultant Anaesthetist in the NHS four years ago to serve with Mercy Ships. She is now both an anaesthetist and the Director of Medical Capacity Building, as well as in charge of all the medical training programmes. She is not paid for her service with Mercy Ships. Any money I raise will help her and Mercy Ships to help 1000s of others.
Every penny counts...You really can make the difference to someone's life.
Thank you for your support.
