Story
So.... Skin Cancer has turned mine and my family's life upside down when Jonray lost his battle to Melanoma Skin Cancer on the 6th November 2015.
Four and a half years ago Jonray joined the roller coaster ride that was Melanoma. We had so many raised hopes but we were quickly knocked back down to reality more times than I can even count. The pain and suffering that Jonray had to endure many times is actually beyond any words that I have to describe what it was like to watch someone I love go through this.
I only wish that I knew many years ago what I now know about the dangers and signs of Skin Cancer. Maybe just maybe we could have spotted the sign's earlier and Jonray would still be here.... unfortunately we will never know. Please visit www.skcin.org for more information on skin cancer they provide life saving information.
Did you know that Skin cancer is the UK’s most common and fastest rising cancer? And that Malignant melanoma is one of the most common cancers in young adults (aged 15-34) in the UK??
My husband had Malignant melanoma, he was just 32 when he passed away, only 28 when he was diagnosed.... the news Jonray had cancer came completely out of the blue for us. I am supporting Skcin to raise awareness of skin cancer through education, promoting prevention and early detection.
I just want to reduce the amount of people that have to go through what me and my family have gone through, leaving my two beautiful girls without their incredible dad.
Money raised will assist national skin cancer charity Skcin in raising awareness to promote the prevention and early detection of the UK’s most common and fastest rising cancer. As well as providing a nationwide resource of free awareness literature Skcin believe that education is key in reversing the soaring rates of skin cancer. To assist the charity in this objective Skcin have created and continue to develop, three national accreditation schemes for pre-school and primary school aged children as well as employers of outdoor workers. These schemes offer comprehensive free resources, educational tools and policy guidance. Over 85% of all skin cancer cases are preventable! Money raised will help Skcin to promote and develop these schemes across the UK, providing vital knowledge that will impact our future generations and those to come.
Thank you for reading my story and please help to get your school to sign for the sun safe school accreditation. Awareness and early detection is everything..
