Story
When Cassidy McIntosh was raped almost 4 years ago, the Jersey police elected not to pursue the prosecution because of inherent difficulties in achieving a conviction. Sadly it remains the case that only a surprisingly few rape complaints are acutually prosecuted.
Shortly after being raped, Cassidy, with the help of her mother, searched in Jersey for someone who would be able to help her overcome such an horrific event. They learnt very quickly that there was no dedicated specialist service - no one to offer support, counselling or guidance.
Cassidy chose to pursue the rapist through the civil courts. Her claim was ultimately settled for £150,000. Cassidy used this money to set up JAAR, a charity which provides the very service that was not available to Cassidy 4 years ago. She wanted to ensure that nobody else in Jersey had to go through and cope with the psychological effects of being raped alone; no rape victim should be forced to suffer in silence or alone.
We are aiming to raise £1,500 to donate to JAAR by walking 48.1 miles around Jersey on 18 June 2016. Please show your support for this incredible cause. We have done almost no training and are going to need all the motivation and support we can get.
