Story
Last year our Nana, June passed away after being diagnosed with cancer of the stomach.
She battled bravely against the cancer, initially having part of her stomach removed when she was deemed to be too weak to undergo chemotherapy. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to stop the spread of the cancer and we were given the heart breaking news that she was terminally ill.
Our Nana’s wish was that when she did pass away, she wanted to be at home surrounded by her family and loving partner Colin. This was a very difficult time for us, seeing someone who you love so dearly and is usually so full of life reduced to a state where she has lost the majority of her bodyweight, can’t eat or drink or even communicate with her family.
At this difficult time, Treetops hospice were there to provide the care that our Nana needed at home and also to give support to our family in understanding the stages of cancer and what she was going through more clearly. They also stayed overnight, which allowed her daughter Claire (acting as her full time carer) to get a few hours of sleep.
To help raise money for Treetops hospice in memory of our dear Nana, we (her 5 grandchildren) are going to attempt to complete the three peaks challenge (http://www.threepeakschallenge.uk/) which involves walking the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.
Any support you could spare in aid of this great cause would be very much appreciated.
