Story
In 2010 I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) - a neurological condition that meant the pressure around my brain was too high and very quickly within only a few weeks I started losing my eyesight and had permanent double vision. In a race to save my eyesight I endured weekly lumbar punctures and suffered awful side effects from numerous medications. After 15 months of gruelling treatments I eventually agreed to have a lumbar-peritoneal shunt fitted to drain the CS fluid permanently and stop the need for lumbar punctures and so far this operation has been a great success.
However, during this time I was also diagnosed with Uveitis and Sarcoidosis - another eye condition that is unfortunately continuing to compromise my eyesight meaning I am still a very regular visitor to Aberdeen Eye Clinic.
My consultant Dr Olson and all the other staff at the clinic have provided invaluable treatment, care and support over the past 5 years including seeing me through my pregnancy and ensured that my beautiful daughter arrived safe and well. The Eye Clinic continues to treat my frequent flare-ups and in doing so they keep saving eyesight.
I want to do something to help raise money for the charity attached to the eye clinic as a thank for everything they have done and continue to do for me. I have never ran in my life before and being considerably over weight means that this challenge is probably one of the biggest of my life so far but I'm determined to succeed!
