Story
Emily is a beautiful, bright and motivated 15 year old. I would say that, she's my daughter; in fairness though, people who get to know her say the same too. So it's devasting to know she will lose her sight by her late teens/early twenties, because of an inherited rare gene. The last year has been tough for Emily. Her sight has deteriorated so she doesn't feel confident to do the things her teenage peers do. This isolates her and makes her feel so very sad. At times she can't see a future.
In September her school nominated her to Journey of a Life Time -JoLt . The charity selects 19 disabled or disadvantaged young adults every two years, and takes them on a fantastic journey for a month in summer to amazing countries. The 2016 expedition is going to Northern Australia and Indonesia. Out of hundreds of applications Emily has been invited on this adventure.
When Emily attended her interview in February we were bold over by this amazing charity. It's a big thing to send your child to the other side of the world for 4 weeks. But having meet not only the organisers but past 'JoLTers', some of them now all grown up and married with their own children. I have nothing but admiration. It was evident that these expeditions change and shape the lives of the young adults who take part.
Family and friends have suggested we set up this page as they want to help Emily fundraise. It costs £5,500 for each person. The charity sets a minimum target of £650 ,but Emily been Emily wants to achieve more. She will be carrying out local fundraising over the next few months. I'll keep you posted via this page.
