Clin and I are rising to the challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day in September to raise funds for Give a dog a bone and also for Cancer research (as it is their challenging we are rising to) 

10,000 steps a day equates to approx 8km (5 miles) a day 42km (35 miles) a week or 240km (150 miles) over the course of the month it is also equal to 300,000 steps .. ideally we would like to raise £300 for each charity ie: £2 for every thousand steps. 

The original challenge was posted on social media by Cancer research and I thought it would be a great way to raise some funds for these two important charities, lose some pounds and embrace the discipline of the daily challenge. 

We are all familiar with Cancer and the charity Cancer Research.  When I saw their challenge it made me realise that I actually know very few people whose lives haven't been touched in someway by the effects of Cancer and by undertaking this challenge I hope to not only raise a few funds to help advancements in understanding of treatment and prevention but also maybe, by becoming a little fitter and more positive in my attitude reduce my own risks.

Give a dog a bone is a small charity based in Scotland but working throughout the UK to help people over 60 to afford a pet either by helping with feeding and vets, medical  costs where otherwise they would struggle to keep their companion or by covering adoption fees for people to take on a rescue dog. The charity helps tackle two important issues loneliness in later years and the growing number of dogs (and cats) finding themselves in need of loving homes.
