Story
At the end of August 2015, my boyfriend Matt noticed his right testicle had swollen. A trip to A&E resulted in antibiotics being prescribed. However they did not help and when he went to his GP when he got home, he was sent to the urology clinic under the 2 week wait.
A week later he attended the urology clinic who sent him for an urgent ultrasound and a lesion was found. 2 days after this he underwent an orchidectomy to remove his right testicle & blood tests showed elevated tumour markers. On the 16th September, Matt was diagnosed with testicular cancer 4 days after he was offered a job in Knaresborough.
He then had a CT scan and was referred to Addenbrookes Hospital for one cycle (3 weeks) of BEP chemotherapy. This chemotherapy can affect his lungs, kidneys, hearing and fertility so he had to undergo a series of baseline tests for these.
Sadly a few days into his cycle his tumour markers had not fallen so he now requires a further 2 cycles. Hopefully this should cure his cancer.
Matt has now finished his chemotherapy and is undergoing 2 monthly check ups to look for evidence of his cancer returning whilst trying to return to normality.
Orchid have been very helpful with their information on their website so we have decided to raise money for them. They specialise in male cancers: testicular, prostate and penile.
