Last year we helped the school in Ollantaytambo refurbish and equip their kitchen so that they can provide decent food for the 200 children they serve. This year we want to pay the wage of a social worker or nurse who can set up a tracking system to ensure that the children who come down from the mountains are living in decent accommodation, not being exploited, and can get a decent evening meal as well as the lunch they are now served at school. The cost of a part time post for one year is about £1,200. We are also providing blankets to 6 communities supported by Power of the Heart, where they are in need of protection against the fierce cold. In the winter many children in the mountains die of pneumonia.
