Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As you may or may not know, our precious daughter was born extremely premature at 23 weeks gestation (I gave birth in March but was not due until July)
Despite the odds being highly stacked against her surviving after birth she proved everyone wrong and came kicking her way out on 10th March 2012. She flourished daily with few set-backs, she truly was a miracle baby.
Sadly at 6 weeks and 3 days old Kayda-Grae was struck with the one infection I had prayed she wouldn't get... necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) - A gastrointestinal disease that mostly affects premature infants, NEC involves infection and inflammation that causes destruction of the bowel. To our heartache, Kayda-Grae developed the most severe form of NEC causing the whole of her bowel and the majority of her colon to die. After 2 heart wrenching weeks of deterioration, we said goodbye to our precious princess in the early hours of 8th May 2012 aged 8 weeks and 3 days old.
Although our angel is no longer with us, she will always be in our hearts and minds. She will never be forgotten and we are keen to keep her memory alive and to be able to do something to thank the amazing neo-natal staff at St George's Hospital and to help other babies and parents on the unit which is why we are raising money for the hospital's neo-natal charity First Touch.
First Touch is concerned with the relief, care and treatment of premature and sick newborn babies in the neonatal unit at St George's Hospital, by providing and assisting in the provision of specialist equipment and improved amenities and facilities, and to support and assit the families of such babies who are or have been on the unit.
