On 27 April 2014 we are planning our first Annual Sponsored Dog walk on the Knavesmire, to raise funds for Keep Your Pet. The walk will be started at 11.00am by William Derby, Clerk to York racecourse and all are welcome. There will also be refreshment stalls, a book sale, tombola and raffle. Prizes include two tickets for the County Stand at York Racecourse on September 7^th, generously donated by the race course. Walkers can register from 10.30 and the entry fee is £5.00 per dog. The entrance is from Knavesmire Road near the Racecourse buildings. Walkers can do any distance they wish and will be given a completion certificate.

Keep Your Pet is a unique collaboration between local branches of Age UK and the RSPCA. It helps older and vulnerable people to maintain their independence and keep their pets with them, by providing pet care when needed. Continuing pet contact is known to aid recovery following illness. It is available to residents in the York and Selby areas, offering help such as pet fostering, dog walking, pet feeding during emergency periods or for predictable short-term requirements such as an admission to hospital. The scheme offers is peace of mind to pet owners and the opportunity to continue to look after their pets once the emergency is over.  Anyone concerned about getting help in an emergency can pre-register their pets through Age UK York.
