Story
It has been over 100 years since any major work has been completed on the bells at St James, Southbroom, when the then four bells were increase to a ring of six and installed into a new metal frame.
Two bells are now showing signs of a major problem and all the bells are suffering from wear and tear which if not dealt with would cause unnecessary long term damage to the bells.
The work involves stripping the bells down to their component parts and taking the headstocks and clappers to the bell founders for refurbishment. Once this is completed the bells will be reassembled and mounted in new self aligning bearings. The estimated cost of this work is just over £10,000.
