We support people with haemochromatosis to improve lives and survival rates

Story

Okay, I might be crazy attempting to tackle those 26.2 miles, again, but this time it's for an amazing charity that are raising awareness about the hereditary Iron Overload disease, Haemochromatosis.

I've watched first hand how someone living with this condition can struggle not only with the everyday symptoms such as severe arthritis, painful stomach cramps and chronic fatigue but more serious side effects such as Cardiomyopathy of the heart and impaired liver function.  Sufferers undergo regular venesection and many live their everyday lives in severe pain that doesn't improve even after treatment, because the diagnosis was too late.

With early diagnosis (a simple blood test!!) and maintenance much of this could all be avoided but we need to raise awareness. The Haemochromatosis society are doing exactly that, including targeting Pharmacists and GP's nationally with training and guidance. This alone will save so many lives!

We have a team of 5 of us running the marathon to help the charity achieve this. Each one of our runners have put in hours of hard training, some suffered injuries and all have put a huge amount into help fundraise. Their effort and dedication has been staggering! Please, please, please help us support this amazing cause.... Every penny counts and is enormously appreciated.

Wishing the whole team a massive good luck for the 24th! I couldn't be prouder to be doing this with you all.

About the charity

Genetic haemochromatosis (GH) affects up to 1 in 200 in the UK. With GH, the body absorbs more iron than it needs; this builds up in the organs to toxic levels and can cause irreparable damage. Early diagnosis saves lives. The society supports those affected, promotes awareness and funds research.
