As you know, mum spent her last two weeks in the truly amazing care of Jersey Hospice, where she felt her best since falling ill in October.

Jersey Hospice is truly a remarkable Charity.  Not only did they look after Mum in such a loving way, they also looked after the family making us all feel so welcome, it was like a second home for those two weeks.

When I first drove up to Clarkson House, I was filled with complete and utter dread.  The nerves and emotion I was feeling was obvious in my shaking hand as I tried to ring the door bell.  I walked through the door and was completely surprised at just how lovely it was and how welcoming all the staff were.  I was shown to mum's room where I saw how happy and relaxed mum was, amazing considering she had only arrived there an hour before me!

What should have been an extremely upsetting and traumatic experience, turned into a period for the family where we shared so many laughs and happy memories.  There were tears of sorrow, obviously, but there were also tears of laughter and joy. Mum's humour, grace and dignity made us all so proud and gave us such strength at a difficult time.  This is most definitely accredited to the staff at Jersey Hospice.  They truly helped mum to feel so good and kept her spirit as it always has been, for that I will be eternally grateful to each and everyone of them.

Jersey Hospice Care receives no other funding from the States of Jersey and the services are provided free of charge to all patients. They remain dependent upon the support of the public to fund the daily operating costs (currently more than £6,000) in order to maintain the high standard of care offered to patients and their families.
