Story

Thank you for visiting the JustGiving Outspan Uganda page.

Take a look at these pictures. You'll see glimpses of the Outspan Primary School in Bwaise, a shanty town on the edge of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Nearly five hundred children are being educated here and not one of them is funded by the state. Many of the children have no one to pay their fees. The school supports some of them and that is how you could help.

Please read on and see how.

Outspan School was founded in 1995 by Dismas Otoori and Tom Ngobi, Ugandan Scout Leaders, and named in honour of Baden-Powell. Northamptonshire Scouts formed a link with the school in the same year and have continued to find funds for pupils as well as other purposes.

Five Northamptonshire schools have also made links and more than a dozen supporters have visited Outspan. Funding has been given for the supply of clean water, for building projects and for computers and text books. Dismas has twice been able to visit the UK.

In 2010 a new building was completed for the school's nursery which has its own classrooms and play space. The nursery has 6 staff teaching 105 pupils and there are 25 staff teaching 362 primary pupils. More new classrooms are needed.

In the same year a new secondary school, Outspan College, was founded near Kayunga, about 70 miles north of Kampala. It has developed with new buildings which were partly funded by benefactors' donations. The examination syllabus now goes up to 'O'Level and beyond. The College is always in need of further help, especially to install its own water supply. It now has 181 pupils and 16 staff.

Donors who can commit at least £300 a year guarantee a boarding education for a child. If you can do this, you will receive termly reports and letters from 'your' child. You can also see your child through secondary school and at Outspan College the fees remain the same. At the moment about 50 children are sponsored from the UK and about 30 by the school itself. Any money sponsors supply helps the school continue its wonderful purpose. Every penny raised, goes directly to the school.

Will you join in and help this venture? You can help a whole family out of poverty by making sure a child gets an education. If you are able to do so, please use this SHOCC Just Giving site.

Our regular sponsors make an annual payment online in December and SHOCC transfers the donations to Outspan in time for the start of the Ugandan school year in late January.

I hope you will support this wonderful school and its pupils. For more information please contact Tim Street at timstreet73@gmail.com

Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Just Giving will  send your donation directly to SHOCC and will make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. SHOCC will then transfer the cash with any Gift Aid, less a small Just Giving administration charge, directly to the school.

So please dig deep and donate now.
