Story
In the summer of last year my friend was brutally attacked outside of her own home by a stranger. Rape Crisis have stood by her every step of the way, supporting her in building up her strength to work alongside the police to bring her attacker to justice and start to reclaim her life again.
The effects of a sexual attack live on way beyond the incident itself, it can impact every area of a persons life, their families, mental health, relationships, career, the ability to simply leave the house to buy yourself a loaf of bread after dark. The list goes on. They continue to support many other female and male victims across the England and Wales providing a life saving service that unfortunately not everyone currently has access to. Reports of rape are at the highest levels they have been for 10 years, and with ever uncertain government funding support they are relying on as much help as they can get to make their limited resources stretch.
That's why by some miracle I'm going to train and run a half marathon in May to try to raise as much money as possible to help. In a recent interview with the Evening Standard, my friend said, “What I want to take from this is to turn it in to something good and help people talk. There must be so many people who go through this and do not speak up." When they do speak up, I want Rape Crisis to be there for them just like they were there for her, please donate if you can or simply help by sharing this page.
