LOVE SONGS

Sunday 17th February, 2013 at 3.30pm

We are writing to invite you to a private concert and reception in aid of the Samaritans.

WHO & WHAT (is this all about?)

Catherine May (soprano), Tamsin Dalley (mezzo-soprano), Tyrone Landau (tenor) and Stephen Wells (baritone) together with the longfordbrown piano duo - James Longford and Lindy Tennent-Brown - will perform two ravishing sets of part-songs by Brahms, his Liebeslieder Walzer, Op 52 and Neue Liebeslieder Walzer, Op 65. “Love songs & waltzes” and “New love songs & waltzes” for the non-German speakers among you. These are delightful songs written for different combinations of voices and piano duet - proper “chamber music” among friends. Which we are.

The second half of the concert will contain songs about love in some fashion or other, a little less operatic and perhaps a little more witty...

There will be a champagne reception with the performers after the concert. The inimitable Renaud de Bosredon (Bar Manager at the newly-opened MASH restaurant in Soho) will be our bartender for the evening.

WHERE & WHEN (will this extraordinary event take place?)

James Longford moved into a lovely Victorian loft conversion in Bermondsey a little while ago, and we’ve been contriving to find an excuse for a house concert there almost since he stepped over the threshold. The apartment is in the clouds on the third floor upstairs (there is no lift, unfortunately), with a balcony for fresh air and a breath-taking view. There is plenty of free on-street parking and it is a leisurely ten-minute stroll from Bermondsey tube station (Jubilee Line).

The address is 3/23a Blue Anchor Lane, SE16 3UL.

The date of the concert is Sunday 17th February, 2013 at 3.30pm.

WHY (on earth?)

We think the Samaritans do amazing, life-changing work in providing a confidential space for callers to explore their feelings. We are committed to raising the profile of this very special organisation, and to securing the future volunteer work of our local branch (Lewisham, Greenwich and Southwark Samaritans). And we thought it was a jolly nice excuse to get together and sing some lovely music with friends in a beautiful space to a willing audience of conoisseurs - of Brahms or champagne, the choice is yours.

HOW (do I book?)

There is space for only thirty seats. Each seat is available for a suggested donation of £50. To reserve one (or more) of those seats you will need to email lindytb@me.comwith “love songs” in the subject line. Please state how many seats you would like to book, along with your full name, address, and contact telephone number. We will reply to emails in order of receipt, and will direct you to our justgiving web-page where you will be able to confirm payment. If you are a UK taxpayer we will ask you to Gift Aid your donation. You are, of course, welcome to donate more should you wish to do so. All the performers and bartender are giving their services for free, and all profits from the concert will go directly to the Samaritans of Lewisham, Greenwich and Southwark (registered charity: 258798).
