Story
This year we've chosen Balloons, the brilliant children's bereavement support charity, to throw our fundraising efforts behind. Our big challenge will take place on 10th and 11th September when we will be cycling the 100 miles from Ilfracombe in North Devon, to our studios in Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Frankly, we're no fitter than we were for last year's cycle ride, so this will be a huge challenge for our motley crew of 20-odd very amateur cyclists! Please sponsor us and give us the boost we will need up those Dartmoor hills and help us to help Balloons cut the time children have to wait for this vital service.
About Balloons
There is nothing which impacts upon a child’s or young person’s life quite like the death of a loved one. Sadly, children don't always receive the support they need because a myth exists that either children will get over it or they are too young; sometime adults feel they need to protect children; often adults feel helpless and don’t know what to say or perhaps they are caught up in their own grief.
Balloons train and provide volunteer Grief Support Workers who offer face-to-face, phone and email support for children and young people (3-25) before an expected death of someone significant in their lives, or following a recent bereavement.
What your gift could be helping to fund:
£5 pays for a Memory Box to fill with treasured memories of the person the child has lost.
£10 pays for art materials to support a child to work creatively and to process their grief.
£50 covers the cost of travel for a volunteer Grief Support Worker for one month.
£100 covers the cost of training a new Grief Support Worker.
£1000 covers the cost of the Christmas children's party and Easter activity day.
£2000 covers the cost of home visits for a year to families where a Mum or Dad is terminally ill.
Balloons make a little go a very long way.
