Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page (and hopefully donating!)
A small team of us here at the London Wetland Centre have come together to take on Tough Mudder so that we can help our workplace and charity, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, raise money for a large-scale project in Madagascar.
As a bit of background (and why we're going to put ourselves through a muddy, electrocuting, barbed wire, totally insane obstacle course!) Madagascar is home to some of the worlds most amazing wetlands but a desperate cycle of poverty leaves them depleted, placing 80% of species under threat. The majority of these species are found nowhere else in the world.
Our charity has come together to work with local people to build sustainable livelihoods which includes improving farming techniques, promoting sustainable fishing methods and protecting nursery habitats. The best way to do this is through environmental education and we've planned a whole programme of activities for local schools.
WWT is now going to Madagascar to pilot these resources so that teaching can happen independently and be promoted so that it can be used elsewhere and have a lasting impact. To do this, our colleagues need funding!
By inspiring local children and their parents, we can directly inspire and help a new generation to value nature, conservation and wetlands.
Our team target is to raise £800 and if you donate even a spare £1 or £2, it all helps the WWT achieve it's ambitions to spread the conservation message and save rare species and wetlands.
Thank you everyone for your support! Photos of us post-Tough Mudder are guaranteed!
