A year ago, Danielle Victoria Hill (DVH) died at the age of 24. Those of you who knew Dani will know that it has been a difficult year since we lost her, with lots of tears but also some happy times remembering what a funny little thing she was. We miss her more than words can say.
When Dani finished school, she was extremely lucky to be offered a place at the Elizabeth Gunn Centre in Harborne (part of Focus Birmingham). The ‘Lizzy Gunn’ centre as Dani called it provides support and Day Services to those affected by loss of sight and other disabilities in Birmingham. The centre’s staff are enthusiastic, caring and treat every service user with kindness and respect. The years that Dani attended the centre were some of the happiest she had and she made many friends. Focus Birmingham is a specialist charity and relies on donations to continue to provide support to the community. Like everywhere else, Lizzy Gunn has had cutbacks imposed on it and things are tight, however, the staff are doing all that they can to ensure that they still provide their exceptional support to all service users with or without funding.
In honour of Dani’s memory, we are planning a summer of sporting events to raise money to support the Elizabeth Gunn centre and allow them to continue to create happy lives for people like Dani.
Therefore, our Framily – friends and family, will be taking part in the Great Midlands Fun Run on June 5th and the City of Birmingham Triathlon on July 24th. Any support would be greatly appreciated, whether it be a donation or coming along to support us on the day - we’ll be the ones decked out in technicolour splendour, you won't be able to miss us!
