Story
In September 2012 Karen and I started our journey into parenthood by attending an antenatal group. We soon made fantastic friends who we went on to share many happy times with. Our son Harry soon had his own buddies who he would regularly spent time playing with.
Tragically on 25th April 2014 one of Harrys friends Jacob Spanier developed pneumonia and septicemia as a complication of chicken pox. It was later discovered after his death that he had a form of leukaemia.
Jacob had previously spent time with Tunbridge Wells Hospital after having a minor operation after having an ear infection that had spread to his mastoid bone. The care and attention that he received on Hedgehog Ward reminded us of why we are so lucky to have this hospital on our doorstep.
The staff in the Women & Children's Department helped care for Kate as she dealt with Jacob's death and her third pregnancy. The same team also gave Kate great support in 2011 when her first son Noah, was sadly stillborn.
Jacob had a wonderfully happy and uncomplicated life before his death. He had travelled to Japan, Canada, France and Spain in his 18 months of life. He did just about everything with a smile and a cackle.
We would also like to thank the Tunbridge Wells Hospital for all the help and support that we personally received during the delivery of our two sons. The doctors and midwives performed quick thinking and vital procedures during both deliveries which in turn could quite possibly have saved our boys lives.
