In March this year, Leigh Gould sadly died at 46 after a lifelong and brave battle with kidney disease. He is greatly missed by family and friends.
Leigh had two great sporting passions, Arsenal FC and his local rugby club in South Wales, Maesteg RFC.
In Leigh’s honour and to raise money for the Kidney Wales Foundation, Aaron, George and Tim are cycling the 200 odd miles from the 60,000 capacity Emirates stadium to Maesteg where a crowd of over 500 causes congestion issues at the bar.
We will be setting off from the Emirates on the morning of Thursday 22nd September. Arsenal have kindly agreed to send Arsene, Olivier and Aaron to wave us off from the centre circle., together with a personal greeting and a generous donation from all the players. They haven't actually confirmed this yet but their response to our letter is no doubt in the post!
We plan to arrive just in time for Maesteg RFC’s home league game against Bonymaen on the afternoon of Saturday 24th September, where we hope to still have the energy for a celebratory lap of the pitch.
From Great Ormond Street in London as a child to Velindre, dialysis units and the University Hospital in Wales, Leigh received some fantastic care. We've decided on the Kidney Wales Foundation, a wonderful charity, funding kidney research and providing much needed support, care and facilities to those on dialysis or in need of a transplant in Wales.
All of the money raised will be going to Kidney Wales Foundation and any donation would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation.
From Leigh's family
