Story

Hello everyone

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As any many of you know my awesome cousin Dan died of oesophageal cancer in 2012. Everyone who met Dan loved him- he was warm, funny, an all round top bloke! He has left a huge hole in our family but is always remembered with a smile as I'm sure he would have wanted.

Since then I have been thinking about what I could do in his memory and have decided all I'm kind of good at is running so I have entered the Edinburgh marathon. It's a long way but nothing compared to what Dan went through during his treatment.

After researching I found the oesophageal cancer charity OCHRE. They raise awareness of the condition, provide support for patients and families and aim to improve access to early diagnostic testing. This is crucial as this condition has a 5 year survival rate of only 6%!

If you feel you can give anything that would be fantastic and I'm sure we will go some way to improving outcomes for patients or at least their journey. Plus Dan was just a top dude!

Thank you

Xx

About the charity

Ochre's main aim is to promote awareness of oesophageal cancer to the public, politicians and professionals by holding meetings, functions, talks and courses, and by establishing a website and distributing leaflets. They also provide funding for equipment for early diagnosis and staging of the tumour prior to treatment and for curative and palliative treatment.
