Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Over the past couple of years I've spent a lot of time participating in running races all over the UK and internationally, including four marathons. This has been part of a massive lifestyle change for me (in 2011 I couldn't run a mile never mind 26.2!) which if you're reading this you probably already know all about. In April 2016 I'll be taking this new found passion/obsession to another level by participating in the 36th London Marathon, one of the most famous marathons in the world.
Why am I doing this? Partly because I love running, but also to support the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund. The Fund was set up in 1991 in memory, unsurprisingly for the observant, of Ron Pickering, the famous athletics coach and BBC commentator. The Fund exists to support young athletes in the UK, giving them funding to assist them in reaching their goals. You might recognise a few of the names who've received grants from RPMF - they include Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Christine Ohuruogu, AKA double Olympic/double World champion, Olympic/World champion, and former Olympic/World/Commonwealth champion. These grants make a huge impact in supporting talented British athletes in transitioning from junior prospects to senior champions.
Your support can help the Fund with its goals, helping a new generation of British athletes to achieve their dreams. In return, not only will Team GB potentially sweep the board in 2016 and 2020, but you get the warm satisfaction of knowing your cash has directly contributed to me grinding my way along a road for hours on end watched by millions of people around the world. And isn't that the best cause of all? Don't wait - donate!
