Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On September 18th, at 7am. with 2,000 other souls, I will enter the waters at Tenby beach in Wales. I will begin with a swim of 3.8km, from there I will cycle 180km up and down the lovely 'hills' of Pembrokeshire and finish up with a marathon through the streets of Tenby. I have never done this before, not even a marathon!
Many things and people inspire me. No more so than those who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis. An illness from which a good friend of mine battles with and whips its ass on a daily basis by his bloody mindedness and enjoyment of life.
Cystic Fibrosis afflicts the young and takes the young. It inhibits lung capacity and ability to break down food. The frequent bouts of coughing and reduced lung capacity has been compared to breathing through a straw. Daily physio just to clear the mucus from the lungs and spells in the specialist unit in St Vincent's hospital are part of life.
I hope the money that we raise here will go toward the research and development in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis, which is working as the life expectancy is increasing. More specialist units are required around the country and awareness needs to be raised.
I have a choice to take on my challenge on September 18th. Some people have no choice in their challenges.
Please support with whatever you can, no matter how small. Please see the Cystic Fibrosis link below for the real insight into the work they do.
My race number is 1435. You can track my progress on the day by searching 'Ironman Wales athlete tracker'.
Thank you for your support.
Liam
