Three peaks, 2 September 2017
We make a real difference to RWT patients, above&beyond NHS provision

Story

We are a group of people that during September will be climbing the 3 highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales over the course of 3 days.

We will scale Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in celebration that miracles do happen and to raise money for the Neo Natal Unit at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.

Neonatal, it's simply not just about the premature babies, it's about the big babies too! Liam Wood was born full term by emergency C-section but unfortunately not breathing. After being resuscitated by Walsall Manor 13 minutes after birth, Liam was later
transferred to Wolverhampton New Cross NNU where he was ‘cooled’ for 72 hours.

Cooling helps to prevent any further possible damage from occurring to the brain by a process of controlled hypothermia. Liam was gradually re-warmed over 12 hours and nursed to full health coming out of hospital after a period of 15 days. Two days later the MRI scan came back clear and didn't show any signs of brain damage. Liam is now a
fully functioning active little boy who at the age of 16 months is certainly keeping everyone on their toes.

Our super slimmer ring leader, Ron has shed a huge 40kg (88lb) over the last 12 months in a life changing and lifesaving move. This huge loss and walking challenge is nothing short of a miracle in its self that we will be celebrating along the way.

Ron and Liam’s grandad Neil have done business together over  several years and have become good friends, becoming a grandad himself only a few months before Liam was born, Ron was moved by the harrowing story of Liam’s birth and the first two weeks of
his life.

Comments made by Neil of how the Neo Natal Unit at New Cross Hospital had given him every opportunity to live a normal life stuck with Ron, and when it was mentioned that the family would like to try and raise some money a drunken promise was made by Ron to support a very worthy cause. Liam's family are dedicated to raising money for the unit to help other babies and their families have the same support they were given.

Part of Ron’s plan to get fit involved increased exercise and through the help of family friends, and work mates, but in particular Petar Marinkovic. Ron started walking, his first hill walk was on the 6th December 2015, since then he has covered over 800 kilometres, scaling the heights of Snowdon, Scarfell Pike, Cader Idris and many more.

It seemed only right that whatever challenge we undertook it should involve hills and walking.  “Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen every day”

Thank you for your interest.

Onwards and upwards Ron, and the team.
