Breaking the Barrier 2015
Surf days for learning disabled children and young adults in Devon

Our project, Breaking the Barrier, provides three annual surf days for learning disabled children and young adults aged 8 to 25.
These free events, hosted by Lifeworks at Bigbury, Polzeath and Saunton, are not intended to provide formal lessons, but to offer the youngsters the thrill of surfing, and where possible standing, as their tandem surfboard catches a wave.
The key to the success of these events is that they are for the whole family - we provide group lessons for parents, siblings and carers in the hope that everyone catches the surfing bug.
Breaking the Barrier does what it says on the tin - breaks down barriers - social barriers and obstacles brought about due to disability, affordability and a lack of confidence.
Last year we were joined by over 100 families, both local and those from further afield. This year we aim to offer spaces for up to 150 young people and their families to join us.
We Need Your Help!
Breaking the Barrier costs £80 per learning disabled child and family - that’s a total of £12,000 that we need to raise in order to run this vital project again this year
There’s no doubt about it - when you see the excitement on the faces of the youngsters and the pride on the faces of their family - this event changes lives.
Change a life and make a whole family smile...
