We vaccinate and neuter dogs in Jaipur to prevent humans from dying of rabies

Story

We are raising money for Help in Suffering (HIS), a clinic that provides veterinary care for animals in Jaipur. HIS works on rabies prevention by neutering and vaccinating the dog population in Jaipur. This is extremely important for safeguarding human health since over 60,000 people every year still die of this terrible and totally preventable disease, of which 99% of human cases are caused by dog bites. HIS also runs a camel veterinary care project, improving health and welfare as well as helping their owners who often rely heavily on them for their livelihoods. We are in our final year of vet school and will be travelling to the clinic to volunteer there for four weeks in March and April 2016.

To raise money for the clinic, we will be cycling the approximately 50 miles from Hertfordshire into central London along canal towpaths. To make this more of a challenge and to highlight the importance of preventing rabies in dogs to protect people, we will be cycling the entire route dressed as dogs!

All money raised through JustGiving goes directly to Help In Suffering. The money raised will go towards medicines, food and medical equipment. Any donations greatly appreciated, thank you!

Every year 61000 people die from rabies. 99% of cases of human rabies are caused by dog bites. Our team of vets vaccinate the dog population of Jaipur to control rabies and prevent spread to humans. We also run veterinary clinics treating working horses, donkeys, camels, cows and wildlife.
