Story
I have a particular interest in dementia since a close relative was diagnosed with vascular dementia over a year ago. I was recommended a local charity, The Contented Dementia Trust based in Burford, and immediately attended a Family & Friends workshop. I was so impressed with their unique positive approach that I trained and qualified as a Presenter for the Introduction to the SPECAL Photograph Album. With the onset of dementia, people need guidance, support and understanding - the "SPECAL" method is a unique approach to help carers and family members understand the world through the eyes of the person living with dementia and so provide the best quality of care. I believe people living with dementia can continue to live life to the full and enjoy the things they did previously. For more information please visit http://www.contenteddementiatrust.org/
I'm walking the 87 miles of The Ridgeway National Trail over 7 days, Tuesday 14 to Monday 20 June. I'll be staying in various Inns/B&Bs and my luggage will be transferred so I don't have to lug too much weight around with me. I was inspired to walk The Ridgeway after doing voluntary work at the National Trails office near Oxford. The Ridgeway is an ancient trackway, the oldest road in Europe dating back 5,000 years and includes many ancient sites like Avebury stone henge, Barbury Castle and Waylands Smithy long barrow. I start near Avebury, Wiltshire and finish at Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. Wish me luck!
