Story
Greyhound Gap are currently hitting a financial crisis that for the first time in tens years could directly impact the longevity of the Charity. As a sensible well run Charity we have always paced ourselves to make sure we do not commit to more than we can handle. During the Winter months we have always been conciencious and headed into them with around 6 months running costs in reserve to subsidise high kennelling bills during a time when Summer fundraising and shows dry up. Sadly this year no doubt due to a general impact on the economy fundraising donations themselves have been at an all time low.
Greyhound Gap is an independant totally self funded death row facility who have around 80-100 dogs in our care at any one time. We have and always will pride ourselves in taking in more of the dogs that other rescues seem to turn from, dogs with serious ongoing health or behavioural issues and more namely the much maligned bull cross that seems to take much longer to find a home due to prejudice. We currently have around 40 dogs in our kennels and within the number around 20 bull x's and others with ongoing medical and behavioural conditions we are trying to get to the bottom of!
Our kennelling bill alone is around £5,000 a month and through the Winter months this rises by another £600 due to the added cost charged for heat lamps to keep the dogs warm.
We are working on some emergency fundraising plans which we hope will come to fruition but in the meantime if you can spare anything to help us it would be greatfully appreciated. £5 can pay for one days boarding, £10 two days. Every amount no matter how little is appreciated to help us push forward.
At Christmas we aim to have 10 emergency spaces for dogs that find themselves out of their homes at the most critical time of the year and this year we are sad to say that we may find we are not in a position to do so and dogs may be euthanised or left to face their fate on the streets.
