I am treking the Atlas Mountains in September to raise money for FOJO - Friends of Jersey Oncology. A small local charity.
As some of you are aware I was diagnosed with a very rare, stage 3, high grade aggressive cancer when my daughter Libby was just 4 months.I was supposed to be enjoying my maternity leave and spending my first Christmas as a new mum, however that wasn't to be. Instead in November 2013 I was flown to the UK where I had an emergency 5 hour operation at the Royal Marsden and then my Christmas present began in December - nearly 6 months of intensive chemotherapy .
Together with my family and friends, the oncology nurses helped me get through those hazey scary dark days. They did everything they could, on minimal budget, to try and make sure my five hours of chemo every visit was as comfortable as possible. When I needed a blood transfusion it happened ASAP so I could get back to play groups with my new baby to try and experience a little bit of normality between all the hospital visits and sickness. Also when every time they couldn't find a vein they would sit with me whilst I boiled my hands/ arms in hot water so I would avoid having to go to Southampton to get a PICC line fitted. FOJO is a small local charity and the money raised over the past two years has enabled the charity has to help so many more people that are going through a really really bad time.
I'm proud to be on the committee and it's important that I do everything I can so the next person going through the chemo journey (approximately 60 people a month) has all the help we can give them. Thank you for donating, whatever you can, it really means a lot x
