Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My husband has always wanted to do the London Marathon. When we met 4 years ago I could only jog a few hundred yards but with his encouragement I have now entered various races up to a half marathon but this is the ultimate challenge that I now really want to do and to share this experience with him.
I have always liked to think of myself as an intelligent, caring person and when I became an adult maths tutor I realised that education for many had been difficult or even lacking altogether. Seeing the difference when they understood problems that they had previously thought impossible was amazing. I wanted to support a local charity because they don't always get the recognition that they deserve but needed to feel an empathy towards their aims. I discovered Minstead Training had their first ever London marathon place - and won't have another for 5 years.
They support adults with learning disabilities to live more independent lives; in their own homes, within the community, and at their centre in Minstead in the New Forest. This is achieved by providing training in work skills, life skills and programmes that promote health and wellbeing.
The work they produce in their workshops would make anyone proud. So I am thrilled to be able to help raise money for them in the year they celebrate their pearl anniversary, particularly at a time when government funding has been cut.
The trust started 30 years ago in 1986 with one man, a spade, a few young adults with learning disabilities and a small patch of ground at Furzey Gardens. They have grown to support over 70 adults lead fulfilled lives as full and valued members of society.
Please help me support this fantastic charity - any donation could make a huge difference to all their students!
