Hi, if you're reading this, it means you've befallen my constant requests for sponsorship. Aren't you great, you big softie!
Following major surgery in March to correct a long-term appendix problem, I decided 2016 was the time to fulfill my ambition of running a marathon. I'm running the Ealing Half Marathon (Sept 2015), Santa Run 10km (December 2015) & Brighton Marathon (April 2016) for Independent Age, because I think it is the right of anyone, no matter their age, to live Independent, healthy, financially comfortable and socially connected lives. As we get older these things become more and more difficult and often older people do not get the support they so desperately need.
I love working for this charity as I have the opportunity to meet amazing, philanthropic and caring people and in return I get to be creative and expressive in my work. While I benefit personally from my work, I know that at the same time it is helping to tackle the unbearable reality of loneliness faced by thousands of older people; helping more older people to be warm in winter; and ensuring older people with care needs are given the best possible outcomes.
I grew up in an old peoples home, where my mum was Sheltered Housing Officer, so I've always had an affinity to older people. So please, dig deep and support me, as I've realised since I started training that I don't really like running, so I really need your support in crossing the finish line! Help me ensure that older people in the UK can live how they want to and not how they are forced to due to the poverty of money, information and social contact.
Thank you, darlings!
Lizzi
