Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page raising monies for the Serenje Orphans Childrens Home in Central Zambia.
The home supplies food, education and support for 44 orphans at a time. Once graduated from the orphanage at 16, the children are supplied with the funds to attend university.
I (Edward) visited the orphanage last summer to see the
progress that fundraising since 2011 had done. Images of the water tower with
other structures are available on page 2. Unfortunately, there was little
evidence of any self-sustaining project
that would be able support the orphanage for years into the future, especially
as Kevin Gilbert will be retiring in 2 years and will be less able to
fundraise.
We held meetings with senior officials in the town of Serenje, and found that due to the lack of land for farming, the most viable option was to build a guesthouse. Serenje is on the T2 (Great North Road) connecting Livingstone in the Southeast, to Tanzania in the Northeast. The guesthouse will provide accommodation for those travelling along this route. It, once built, should provide the orphanage with an income of approximately £16000 p.a., which is 67% of the £24000 needed annually.
We have therefore set a target of £20000. This money will provide a significant amount of the funds in order to build the guesthouse, which will cost approximately £27000 in total. The foundations of the building have already been built, and are on page 3.
We hope you can help provide as much support as possible, in order to make SOCH self-sustainable long into the future.
Thank you,
Edward Lloyd
