The Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith is one of the largest producing theatres in London, established for 120 years.
The Lyric’s dual commitment to producing the highest quality contemporary theatre, alongside nurturing the creativity of young people is what makes it unique. It has one of the youngest audiences of any theatre in the country and is a place where some of the UK’s finest actors and theatre-makers work side-by-side with some of the most diverse and disadvantaged young people in London.
Young offenders, looked after children, those who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) and those at risk of dropping out of education have turned their lives around after attending specialised programmes at the Lyric.
Thousands of young people’s lives have been changed through their engagement at the Lyric. Their targeted programmes are for those aged 11-21 years who have complex family/living situations; living in poverty or with substance misuse, under the supervision of youth offending teams, with learning difficulties, mental health issues, in foster care or alone. Due to these young people’s transient circumstances they commonly miss out on both education and extracurricular activities where they could learn and improve skills.
Lyric know that there is a real and urgent need for their targeted projects, in particular - a need which is not being fully met by schools or other agencies who refer young people to their existing programmes. This is why we have decided to join forces with the Lyric and walk the 10 miles from Barclays Canary Wharf to The Lyric Hammersmith, to raise awareness and fund raise to support the future of this fantastic programme. Whatever you can donate, big or small, Barclays will be matching your donation £4£.
