Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The London Animals Asia Support Group has pledged to adopt one of the bears on a bear farm in Nanning, Southern China, which is being converted into a sanctuary by Animals Asia.
There are a total of
130 bears
on the farm who need to be looked after and many need urgent medical care. This is the first rescue of its kind ever and it will take about
2 years
to complete and
£3,000,000
, so our help is needed more than ever now. Animals Asia is calling this campaign
Peace by Piece
which says so much about their amazing work towards ending this unimaginably cruel trade forever; peacefully and step by step. There is a microsite dedicated to the campaign. If you would like to find out a little more please go to https://peacebypiece.animalsasia.org/home
Our bear is a big, broad female, mature in age. She is a pretty big girl with a lovely face, brown muzzle and a big ruff. Her name is Ronnie aka John, names chosen by Amanda Hogan and David Lawton and both names are very special. The money we raise will directly help with the conversion as it will give our bear all she needs for the first two years of being looked after by Animals Asia
Bear bile farming is cruelty in a league of its own. Not only are these bears confined to tiny cages, unable to move or stand on grass and tortured daily, but this can go on for decades. Oliver, a brown bear rescued in 2010, spent the first
30 years
of his life in a cage, unable to move or even grow properly. If we stop for a second and think about what we did in those 30 years it puts things into perspective a little. For anyone who is unfamiliar with bear bile farming please have a look at Animals Asia's website. Find out what it is and how Animals Asia is making a real difference https://www.animalsasia.org/intl/our-work/end-bear-bile-farming/
This page was set up by me (Maren) as someone has to do it but it is for all members of the London Animals Asia Support Group and others who are doing challenges for Ronnie aka John to help her and the other bears get the sanctuary they so deserve.
