Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June I will be supervising a team of students from Luton Sixth Form College on their trip to Malawi. They will be teaching in schools and we will be working in orphanages in Blantyre.
Malawi is one of the world's least developed countries. The economy is heavily based on agriculture, with a large rural population.Malawi has a low life expectancy rate and high infant mortality. There is a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, which is a drain on the labour force and government expenditure. To add to things, there is also currently a drought in the country.
One of the charities we work with when we are in Malawi is Kanyawi Kids. This charity promotes and supports self-sustainability in orphan care in Kenya and Malawi. The charity aims to fund projects such as:
- buying farmland to set up farm
- community feeding programme
- vocational skills training
- -setting up livestock income generating projects
Agricultural education alongside financial sustainability offered to an orphan care project with a working farm, vegetable patch and livestock is invaluable.
