Story
In June 2013 Jacob was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disorder (CGD) following an extremely severe chest infection. CGD is a genetic condition affecting Jacob's immune system, his white blood cells are able to locate and find bacterial and fungal infections but are not able to produce the chemicals needed to combat the infections. He has been receiving treatment ever since and will be admitted to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital to receive a Bone Marrow Transplant, which will cure him of the condition, on 13th May. The conditioning to get Jacob's body ready for the transplant will include chemotherapy and will mean that Jacob will lose his hair. Jacob has decided that he would like to get his head shaved prior to this and to receive sponsorship for it to help raise awareness of CGD and to help fund the on going research into the condition.
To help support Jacob in this, and to raise more money, my brother Jon, Jacob's uncle, will also be shaving his head. Thankfully Uncle Jon is not the vain type so was happy to do this and to help Jacob feel more comfortable with a big change to his appearance.
Please give generously so that the CGD society are able to continue their good work of researching the condition and supporting those of us affected by it.
