As an employee of Opal Property Group, I, along with over 800 staff employed have been encouraged to either walk, run, hop or conga etc, to complete 874 miles, the equivalent of Lands End to John O Groats. We aim to do this before the Olympics and raise £17584 to be split between AMREF and the NSPCC.
I have chosen to ride 4 ½ miles on Izzy, accompanying us will be my little rescue dog; Sparkie. I also intend to quit smoking on this day in memory of my father who died of lung cancer in 2010, and memory of my mum who died in 2008.
It would make me very happy if you donated, even if it’s just £1, every little helps, it’s not much and I don’t have a huge target. I know times are tight for people at the moment. Unless you have been there, quitting smoking is very hard so I reckon it’s worth a small donation to these selected charities and to help spur me on. Thanks.
I will no longer smoke from 23:59 hours Friday 16th March and the 4.5 mile ride will take place on Saturday 17th March.
About the two charities the Opal Foundation Support:
NSPCC - In the UK, we aim to fund 30 NSPCC Child Line Councillors able to reach out to around 6000 children in danger of abuse. Councillors will be supported in each City where Opal has accommodation.
AMREF - The money will also enable us to support 121,000 young children and mothers affected by HIV through the programme known as 'bright hope'. The programme is aimed at reaching out to them to prevent the transmission of HIV to their children by training them to offer safe breastfeeding practices, drugs care and treatment.
