Story
B Company 1 YORKS are in Afghanistan on operation HERRICK 15 and not content with fighting the Queen's enemies and protecting the goodies we also have decided to go the extra mile for some really worthy causes.
Specifically we are going to launch ourselves at a challenging and gruelling event over 60 days to raise money for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund and for a young man called Thomas Sullivan. Thomas is a very special little boy who suffers from cerebral palsy. He has never been able to walk and has spent his whole life in a wheelchair. Thomas and his family need to raise £25,000 to give him an operation that just might allow him to walk for the first time ever. He also happens to be the son of Cpl Sullivan - a soldier serving with B Coy 1 YORKS...and that makes him extra special to us.
Like many good ideas we have taken inspiration from a song. That song is 'Be the one - 500 miles' by The Proclaimers. Not satisifed that simply walking 500 miles is a gritty enough challenge we have added all the miles mentioned in the song and it totals an eye watering 8,000 miles. So, we intend (somehow) to fit 8,000 miles of running, rowing, cycling and cross training into the last 60 days of our tour. We have already started and although it is difficult we are on course.
