Story
Hi Everyone!
On Sunday 2nd October I will be running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in aid of Enable Glasgow.
In 2012, my auntie Emer, who had Down Syndrome and a heart condition, sadly passed away and after this I decided I wanted to get involved in working with adults with learning disability which is how I got involved with volunteering at Enable Glasgow.
Enable works with adults with intellectual disabilities in Glasgow and their carers to give them the best opportunities and quality of life that they deserve. It provides a range of services such as day centres, supported living and social clubs around Glasgow. This support network continues to improve the lives of many vulnerable adults in Glasgow and is relied on by many. Working as a volunteer with the members of Enable has been extremely rewarding and fulfilling for me also and I've met so many wonderful people through it which I am extremely greatful for.
Last year I completed the Great Scottish Run 10K (not an easy task for me!!) and have decided to further challenge myself with the half marathon this year to raise some money for a great charity. I'm under no illusion that its going to be a long and probably painful 13.1 miles to endure!!
Any money you can donate, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated not just by myself but all the services users, carers and families that benefit from the work that Enable do.
Thanks for reading,
Lydia xo
