Dear Friends & Family
12 months ago my Mum was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL). Mum’s being the tough creatures they are, she’s soldiered on like it’s ‘business as usual’.
I on the other hand reacted like any other bloke embarking on a mid-life crisis; and bought myself a pushbike, vaguely matching lycra from Aldi; and signed up to do an extreme endurance event in June this year with two of my close buddies in aid of a relevant charity . You’ll like the next bit . . . .
We have to drag our middle-aged asses from Anglesey (that’s the very top of Wales for the non-natives) to Cardifff (that’s the very bottom). The route involves 160 miles of cycling across Wales’ most hilly terrain, with an additional 20 miles of fell running thrown in over the Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-Y-Fan mountain ranges. It gets better . . . we have to complete it in under 24hrs!
I can almost hear you all laughing at the thought of this; and while I’m guilty of trying to put a humorous spin on things, it’s no joke – clearly neither is CLL, particularly when you learn how dependent groups such as the CLL Support Association (our chosen charity) are on the Good Will & charitable donations from the likes of you.
The CLLSA are a patient and carer led association formed to support the treatment, research & awareness for those specifically affected by CLL. The CLLSA only have one full time employee to ensure costs are kept to a minimum and that available money goes where it’s needed most, the rest are volunteers. Such groups have been a big help to mum over the last year. Hopefully you can see how even a small contribution can make a big impact.
So, we’re not doing this for free; and kindly ask you to please, please, please show your support with a donation via the Just Giving link below.
Progress is being made towards finding a solution to this disease. Please be a part of pushing it another step closer to this finish line.
Many thanks in advance, (photos of me in rather cheap, ill-fitting lycra will be posted in due course)
Lyndon
