Story
On Saturday 4 June over 90 brave colleagues and friends will descend on the Yorkshire Dales to undertake the annual Mills & Reeve Charity Challenge.
The majority of participants will be undertaking a 12km trek over Ingleborough (the second highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales) and a 2.5km traverse through passages, chambers and obstacles in the Long Churn Cave. The more avid hikers will however be completing the traditional Yorkshire 3 Peaks. Regardless of the option selected the participants are going to have both their fitness and mental resolve tested to their limits.
The inspiration for this challenge is YoungMinds - the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. 850,000 children and young people in the UK are suffering from a mental health problem, this works out as 1 in 10 or an average of 3 children in every classroom. 50% of all enduring mental ill health begins before the age of 14, and 75% before the age of 18. These statistics are compounded by the fact just 0.7% of the NHS budget is allocated to this cause.
YoungMinds campaign, research and influence policy and practice on behalf of children and young people for improved careand better services. Their projects include a Parents Helpline, youth engagement work, training and consultancy, media and online resources. You can find out more about what they do on their website: http://www.youngminds.org.uk/.
