Story

First a little about Maisie she was born October 5th 2011 one day past her due date, weighed 5lb 13oz.

Maisie like many other babies born throughout the world had the chord wrapped around her neck, however in Maisies case the chord was wrapped too tight meaning that not enough blood was being pumped around her body and not enough oxygen was getting to her little brain.

After a good fight and a few scares Maisie was rushed to the NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit at james cook university hospital, where she was looked after by the most dedicated, caring and amazing team of doctors and nurses, who we will never be able to thank enough for the care and attention they gave to Maisie 24hrs a day.

Maisie was placed on a special hi tech cooling mat which lowers and controls the body's core temperature by around 2.5 degrees C for 72 hours. This is proven to radically reduce the deterioration of the body's cells especially from the brain, meaning any damage sustained through lack of oxygen shouldnt get any worse. The body is an amazing thing, and all of Maisies major organs, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys would in time, of repaired themselves. However the damage sustained before she was placed on the cooling mat Tragically for Maisie was too severe, but she fought on bravely for 4 days and nights. But on Oct 9th she silently and peacefully slipped away from us all.
Those four days where both the happiest and most heartbreaking days of our lives but we got to be with our beautiful girl throughout and for that we are eternally gratefull.
There are only a few of these cooling mats available in the north east and our aim is to supply a second mat to the James Cook University Hospital neonatal ward. Although this isnt a happy ending for us it could be for another family.
So please dig deep and donate now, this is such a worth while cause and will give HOPE to so many parents that their child survives such a trauma.
Thank you in advance for your support.

2015 - weve had a great start to the year with over £500 raised through the Gazettes Wish tokens which saw us make the top 10 for the 2nd year running!! Thank you SO much to everyone who continues to help and support us with collecting these tokens!
We have also recieved a check for £500 most recently from the Freemasons Dundas Lodge. Thank you John Dixon for nominating us for the donation!
Dont forget our annual christmas ball this year in November at our new venue Crathorne Hall. As well as that we will be taking part in this years 10k run again. Let us know if you would like to be part of our team!

2013 - Just a little update....september was an eventful month for Maisies Hope. Myself & Graham completed the Middlesbrough 10k run along with the rest of our little team, daria, faisal, nico, lucy and fiona aswell as our little helpers isabelle, sophia and olivia who all ran in the childrens 5k event.

Then we had 2 super fit friends Nico dewhirst and Michael Griffiths complete the Great North Run.

Nico also held 2 special zumba classes where all proceeds were donated to Maisies Hope. I even took part in my first ever zumba class!!

Then we had Grahams friend David Power run the Redcar half marathon. So an amazing month for us and a lot of money raised!!

Our next big event this year is Maisies Christmas Ball at Gisbrough Hall on Fri 6th December. Tickets have now sold out! Its going to be a fantastic night and again hopefully we'll raise lots of money for those amazing people in Neonatal!

Along side that we are part of the Gazettes WISH campaign again this year. So we need everyones help in collecting the tokens. We would love to beat last years total of 54,000!! And get in the top 10...we missed it by just 1 position last year - our 1st year!! We know we can do it!

Heylo Everyone. Maisies Hope continues to go from strength to strength with us only £700 away from our 2nd target the day before our little angels 1st Birthday! We continue to be overwhelmed by the support we get from people wanting to help us in our fundraising. Over the past 12 months we have had several fundraising events including My sister Steph and Nephew Jack taking part in the Boxing Day Dip, a charity zumba night arranged by Nico Dewhirst, and pub crawl organised by my little sister Stephanie Bint. Maisies Daddy and Grandad Kevin did the Coast 2 Coast along with Grahams friend Andy Maisalau and cousin Michael Nellis. I finally got to do my first fundraiser with Graham in September when we completed the Middlesbrough 10k Run - a very emotional day for me (and soooo hard physically after only signing up to do it the day before) Also James Lowe had just completed the Great North Run, all to raise money in our beautful daughters name. Not to mention every single other person who has donated to this cause in the past year.
This week had seen our biggest opportunity to date to raise money and awareness for  'Maisies Hope' through the Evening Gazettes WISH Campaign. Yes our baby girl has made it onto their Wish List! Every day for the next 14 weeks tokens will be published in the gazette which we need everyone to help us collect! The more tokens we have the more money we raise for the Neonatal Unit. Please help us to spread the word and ask friends, family, collegues to save theses tokens for us. Thank you to those who have helped us do this already we appreciate it so much!! We still have lots planned throughout the rest of 2012 and will continue to focus all our efforts in keeping MAISIES HOPE going from strength to strength. If anyone has any fundraising ideas or would like to arrange an event please contact us. Again a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for their help and support this past year! It means the absolute world to us.
Love Maisies Mummy and Daddy xxx

Updated- 28th January 2012
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This is dedicated to our Beautiful baby girl Maisie Hope aged just 4 days. Although Maisie was with us for only 4 short days she has achieved so very much and touched so many hearts. We are just so so proud of our precious baby girl.
Firstly we would like to thank every single person who has donated so far to this wonderful cause, no matter how big or small. We appreciate every single penny especially in todays hard times.
On Christmas Day 2011 we had a very emotional visit to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to tell them that we had not only reached but exceeded our origional target of £14,000. Because of all of you who kindly donated money the unit have now been able to order the new cooling mat.
We will always continue to raise money for the Neonatal Unit and are in regular contact, discussing what we would like to raise money for next. There are a number of vital pieces of equipment and machinery which the unit could benefit from such as machinery to assist the cooling mat, incubators for premature babies and straps for the Transport Incubator. All of these things range from around £10,000 to £20,000.
We have set our new target initially at £10,000 (which we have added on to the origional target) which we hope to acheive in 2012 through fundraising events, starting with Maisies Daddy doing the Coast to Coast in April.
The Neonatal Unit and its wonderful team of doctors and nurses make a huge difference to so many peoples lives and not just the babies but their familys, and they will always remain very dear to our hearts.
Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts xx
