Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm taking on my biggest challenge so far..in April 2016 I will be running the MDS..Marathon Des Sables..a gruelling multi-stage adventure through one of the world’s most inhospitable climates - the Sahara desert. It is a self-sufficient race which means I will need to carry ,on my back, everything except water to complete 6 marathons in 6 days!
I'm raising money for British Blind Sport (BBS) whose work supports and enables blind and visually impaired people to have the same opportunities as sighted people to access and enjoy sport and recreational activities in the UK..changing lives for the better. They encourage children and adults to participate in activities at all levels - from grassroots to the Paralympic Games. Given my passion for running and sports in general I truly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in sports.
I have had the honour of taking part in a race which had a blind runner who was being helped by a fully sighted "guide". They both shared a tether by hand and the guide communicated and guided the blind runner around the route. Truly inspirational. One of the BBS initiatives that I would like to support, through fund-raising, is the development of an interactive, user-friendly and vibrant “guide runner matching” service that will pair up approved guide runners with visually impaired runners throughout the UK. The service will break down barriers and give opportunities for visually impaired runners to take part in physical activity in a safe, enjoyable and social way.
