Story
Inspired by the success of the Staff Sponsored walk which took place in September, and motivated by my personal experience visiting while a member of the Yr4God team in 2010/11, I have decided to take the bold (or perhaps foolhardy) decision to have my hair shaved to raise money for the KwaHilda’s (St Hilda) Orphanage in South Africa.
The Orphanage is near Newcastle (South Africa) and provided for orphans of HIV/AIDS. Despite the importance of the work undertaken by the Orphanage, they receive very little government funding, and rely heavily on donations in order to be able to continue the work they do.
Many Pilgrims know me, both from my time on the Yr4God team, but more recently in my role as Sacristan. Instantly recognisable (even from behind) by my long hair, I have decided that shaving it off is an excellent way to not only raise money, but also awareness of the Orphanage.
The great shave will take place on 25 January 2014, and I suspect will be witnessed by a great multitude of onlookers. Please give generously, and try not to laugh too heartily at my after I am shorn.
