Story
I would to thank you first of all for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Matthew was diagnosed with a condition called Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He was 7 and a half when we found out so you can imagine the shock we had when we received his results. Matthew has x on 45 missing from his body which is what produces protein to rebuild the muscle. Matthew already uses his wheelchair as he struggles to walk long distances and he tires very easily. Eventually he will end up in his wheelchair permanently when he is in his teens but the unknown fact is it could be sooner we just don't know. Matthew's life expectancy is averaged to be in his 30's and with his condition this could affect his heart and breathing as he gets older. At the moment the house needs to be adapted to meet matthew's needs as it is not wheelchair friendly at the moment and an extension needs to be built as he shares a room with his brother. A through floor lift is needed so he can access his room independently as he gets carried upsatirs and a ramp so he can access the house. The sitting room also needs to be extended forward as it is not very big and all door ways need to be made larger and walls knocking down to make more space. The bathroom needs to be extended so a shower/wet room can be build upstairs and a toilet downstairs. Through out the house matthew also needs ceiling hoists to be put in place. When all adaptation is done matthew will be able to bring his powered wheelchair home as it stays in school because we cannot get it in the house. Matthew is a very happy boy and he will appreciate any help he gets he always has a cheeky smile on his face and is very confident in telling people about his condition.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read about matthew and his condition.
