Story
Two years ago I discovered SeeKenya and have been on every trip since! Let me tell you quickly why I love this charity and think it is absolutely worth your support. First a few facts (courtesy of WHO):
- There are 285 million visually impaired people worldwide
- 90% of these people live in developing countries
- 80% of visual impairment can be prevented or cured
A quick bit of maths tells me that there are 205.2 million people in developing countries who are unnecessarily visually impaired!!! That's a LOT of people. And it's only because they can't afford, or don't have access to appropriate eye care. 110.3 million of them would be fine if only they had some glasses. In my opinion that is not acceptable.
We travel out to Kenya twice a year and run eye clinics in partnership with a local church in Meru, an area 5 hours north of Nairobi. We supply glasses, sunglasses and eye drops and fund cataract surgery. But our aim is to run a sustainable eye hospital, employing local people and providing top quality eye care. We have a building, lab for manufacturing glasses and most recently have been donated an operating microscope. But there is a lot of work to be done, and funds needed, to transform the building into a hospital.
As terrified as I am about not being able to see for an entire day, it will be worth it to promote this amazing cause! Please be as generous as you can.
