Story
Hi Everyone!
It wasn't until this summer I decided University wasn't quite ready for me. A gap year was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made as it led me to discover ICS and embark on this incredible opportunity. I've always admired people who have done voluntary work overseas and have always wanted to myself, so I guess now is my time.
ICS- International Citizenship Service is a UK government funded development programme that brings together young people to make a difference in some of the poorest communities around the world. Incredibly, they cover the costs of all expenses on the trip, but we are asked to fundraise in return. The money will not go directly into paying for my project, it will contribute to the programme to enable as many young people as possible from the UK and overseas to volunteer on projects in the developing world and fight poverty.
I'm certain 10 weeks in Malawi will be life changing. Despite being a beautiful country almost half the population live below the poverty line. My placement will focus on nursery education, providing a better pathway for the children to enter primary education.
I am planning many events to raise money, so you all can look forward to many cake sales, raffles and quizzes. But any donations you could make would be greatly appreciated. I am really relying on the support of all you guys so whatever you can afford would be an amazing help.
I'll be sure to keep you all updated on any details I'm told about the placement and any upcoming fundraisers.
Thank you
